Abstract

An-Nur Ngrukem Bantul Islamic boarding school is one of the Islamic educational institutions that has chosen an innovative path in integrating a green economy into its operations. This article presents an overview of the efforts and results of implementing the green economy in this Islamic boarding school. This Islamic boarding school has created a positive impact in reducing its environmental footprint by emphasising sustainable practices, using renewable energy sources, and ecological awareness. This Islamic boarding school tries to apply the green economy concept in its institution. The green economy is by the objectives, basic principles and systems in Islamic economics, namely to improve human welfare and the quality of human and natural life. The discussion about the aims/intent of sharia (maqashid sharia) is exciting and can then be used as an analytical tool in approaching the study of the green economy. This article also highlights the benefits that Islamic boarding schools have obtained and the challenges faced during the implementation process. The success of the An-Nur Ngrukem Bantul Islamic Boarding School in implementing a green economy provides inspiration and valuable lessons for similar institutions that wish to adopt sustainable practices and make the environment an integral part of Islamic education and sustainability.
